8 月 16 日，大英博物館近日有 2000 件藏品被盜。作為世界上最著名的博物館之一，在科技如此發(fā)達(dá)的今天，竟然會(huì)出現(xiàn)如此猖獗的偷盜情況。更讓人痛心的是，該博物館的眾多藏品皆是略奪他國(guó)文物而來，半個(gè)月過去，大英博物館仍舊沒有公布所有失竊文物的名單。

很久之前，國(guó)內(nèi)就流傳一些聲音：中國(guó)的文物在大英博物館被保護(hù)得更好。但事實(shí)是什么？近 30 年來，大英博物館已經(jīng)被盜了 6 次。即便是最嚴(yán)重的這次，仍然有些人執(zhí)迷不悟。

字面意思是「往下走」，如果一個(gè)人擔(dān)任某職位，然后辭職，相當(dāng)于職場(chǎng)之路階段性走了下坡路。我們可以依靠這個(gè)聯(lián)想，記住 step down 的真正含義——辭職，下臺(tái)。如果是「辭去某職位」，我們可以在后面加上 as，比如，step down as chairperson。此外，down 也可以換成 aside，含義不變。

loophole

circulate 是老朋友啦，原本指液體、氣體等「循環(huán)」，如果是流言、觀點(diǎn)循環(huán)，那就變成了 it spreads or it is passed from one person to another「?jìng)鞑ィ⒉肌埂Ｋ员疚?a widely circulated claim 是指「?jìng)鞑ド鯊V的說法」。

指的是中國(guó)最古老的中國(guó)畫長(zhǎng)卷之一《女史箴圖》，相傳為顧愷之所作。西晉惠帝時(shí)期，賈后專權(quán)，禍亂后宮。后來張華作《女史箴》一文，教導(dǎo)后宮女性應(yīng)該遵守道德標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。按照張華的詩作，顧愷之以繪畫的形式創(chuàng)作出了《女史箴圖》。繪于公元 5 至 7 世紀(jì)，曾為清宮舊藏，1903 年流落大英博物館。

admonition /??dm??n???n/ 是 a warning to sb about their behaviour 正式的「警告；告誡」，比如 a stern admonition 是指「嚴(yán)厲警告」。instructress 與 instructor 相對(duì)，指的是「女指導(dǎo)者，女講師」，the court ladies 指的是「后宮女性」。

milestone

源自拉丁語 “milia passuum”，意思是 a thousand paces，羅馬人每一千步會(huì)放一塊石頭作為標(biāo)記。所以 milestone 后指 a very important event in the development of something「重大事件，里程碑」，相當(dāng)于 milepost, landmark。
