“燕子銜泥兩度新”——《全唐詩詠燕十六首輯譯》

燕子是刻在國人骨血里的溫柔意象，尋常百姓皆愿檐下留空，盼春燕銜泥筑巢，年年等候舊燕歸梁。雙燕翻飛、舊巢重尋，藏著闔家安穩、故人重逢的美好期許。唐人惜這份生靈溫情，張九齡、杜甫、白居易、李益等十余位詩人皆落筆詠燕，借燕寫身世、抒胸襟、寄相思，十六首詩作各有風骨。今輯錄全唐原作，以信達雅押韻英譯重塑詩意，留存燕語千載詩情。

以下是《全唐詩》中專門詠燕或題名含"燕"（燕子、詠燕、歸燕、新燕等）的完整詩作，共16首，據《全唐詩》原文輯錄，一字不差：

1.詠燕

（唐）張九齡

海燕何微眇，乘春亦暫來。

豈知泥滓賤，祗見玉堂開。

繡戶時雙入，華軒日幾回。

無心與物競，鷹隼莫相猜。

賞析：借燕自喻，雖出身微賤但志向高潔，不與世爭，勸誡鷹隼莫猜忌，暗含仕途坦蕩之心。

Ode to Swallows

Small sea swallows, frail and slight,

Ride vernal winds to take shortflight.

Men scorn their mud-stained humblebirth,

Let hawks no jealous suspicion feed.

Appreciation:The poet compares himself to swallows. Though humble in origin, he holds nobleaspirations, shunning worldly strife, and warns jealous rivals againstsuspicion, implying a peaceful official career.

2.詠燕

（唐）張鷟

化石身猶重，銜泥力尚微。

從來赴甲第，兩起一雙飛。

賞析：贊燕雖體輕力微，卻能銜泥筑巢，年年奔赴豪門，雙飛雙宿，象征忠貞不渝的情誼。

Ode to Swallows

Appreciation:It praises swallows that build nests with feeble strength. They visit grandmansions year after year and fly in pairs, a symbol of loyal love.

3.燕

天女伺辰至，玄衣澹碧空。

差池沐時雨，頡頏舞春風。

相賀雕闌側，雙飛翠幕中。

勿驚留爪去，猶冀誤吳宮。

賞析：將燕比作天女，描繪其雨中飛舞、風中嬉戲的靈動姿態，尾聯巧用吳宮燕子留爪典故，希望燕爪留痕，增添歷史韻味。

Start not, though you leave faint claw prints behind;
I hope your trace once graced old Wu’s palace kind.
Appreciation: This poem likens swallows to celestial maidens, depicting their lithe grace bathing in timely rain and frolicking amid spring breezes. The final couplet draws on an ancient allusion of swallow claw marks left in the Wu Palace. The poet yearns for lingering traces of the birds, endowing the lyrical work with profound historical charm.

4. 賦得檐燕

（唐）皇甫冉

拂水競何忙，傍檐如有意。

翻風去每遠，帶雨歸偏駛。

令君裁杏梁，更欲年年去。

賞析：刻畫燕子掠水穿風的忙碌身影，詩人愿為它們裁杏梁筑巢，期盼年年歸來，充滿人情溫暖。

Appreciation:It depicts busy swallows skimming water and wind. The poet wishes to buildbeams for their nests, longing for their annual return with tender warmth.

5.歸燕

（唐）杜甫

不獨避霜雪，其如儔侶稀。

四時無失序，八月自知歸。

春色豈相訪，眾雛還識機。

故巢儻未毀，會傍主人飛。

賞析：借燕歸巢感嘆自身漂泊，叮囑燕子若舊巢未毀便伴主而飛，寄托了對故園的深切眷戀。

Appreciation: Thepoet sighs over his wandering life through homecoming swallows. He bids thebirds stay by his house if their old nest survives, conveying deep longing forhometown.

6.雙燕

旅食驚雙燕，銜泥入此堂。

應同避燥濕，且復過炎涼。

養子風塵際，來時道路長。

今秋天地在，吾亦離殊方。

賞析：以雙燕銜泥入堂與自己避亂他鄉對比，同歷炎涼，共感飄零，流露出天涯淪落的共鳴。

A Pair of Swallows

Wandering, I marvel at your pair,

We both escape cold, damp and heat,

Appreciation:The paired swallows entering the hall mirror the poet’s exile. Both endurehardships and wandering, resonating with the sorrow of displaced souls.

7.燕子來舟中作

（唐）杜甫

湖南為客動經春，燕子銜泥兩度新。

舊入故園嘗識主，如今社日遠看人。

可憐處處巢居室，何異飄飄托此身。

暫語船檣還起去，穿花貼水益沾巾。

賞析：最動人的一首。燕子銜泥兩度新，詩人卻久客湖南，人燕相對，淚濕衣巾，寫盡羈旅孤寂。

Swallows Visit My Boat

Once in my old home you knew me well,

Through blooms and waves my tearsignite.

Appreciation:The most touching poem. Swallows rebuild nests twice while the poet lingers farfrom home in Hunan. Their meeting fills him with lonely wanderlust and tears.

8.村舍燕

（唐）杜牧

漢宮一百四十五，多下珠簾閉瑣窗。

何處營巢夏將半，茅檐煙里語雙雙。

賞析：漢宮華麗卻緊閉，燕子偏在茅檐下雙雙私語，諷刺富貴不如田園之樂，平淡中見真趣。

9.歸燕

畫堂歌舞喧喧地，社去社來人不看。

長是江樓使君伴，黃昏猶待倚欄干。

賞析：燕子去來無人關注，唯有詩人倚欄等待，借燕寫己，抒發官場冷遇中的孤獨與堅守。

You stay beside my river tower,

Appreciation:No one notices the swallows’ comings and goings, only the poet waits by therailing. He uses swallows to express loneliness amid neglected official life.

10. 新燕

才離海島宿江濱，應夢笙歌作近鄰。

減省雕梁并頭語，畫堂中有未歸人。

賞析：新燕初來，夢中猶聞笙歌，卻在畫堂中看到未歸之人，以燕襯人，含蓄表達思念之情。

Appreciation:Newly arrived swallows dream of music, yet witness a lonely man in the hall.The birds set off hidden longing for an absent loved one.

11. 春來燕

我屋汝嫌低不住，雕梁畫閣也知寬。

大須穩擇安巢處，莫道巢成卻不安。

賞析：勸燕子謹慎擇巢，莫貪雕梁而致巢傾，實為諷喻世人勿慕虛榮，應求安穩之道。

Appreciation:The poet urges swallows to pick safe nesting spots rather than fancy beams. Itsatirizes vanity and advocates a secure, modest life.

12. 燕來

去歲辭巢別近鄰，今來空訝草堂新。

花開對語應相問，不是村中舊主人。

賞析：燕子歸來驚訝草堂新貌，卻不見舊主人，物是人非之感油然而生，滄桑盡在不言中。

Swallows Return

Appreciation:Swallows return to a renovated cottage, yet their old master is gone. The poemsilently conveys sorrow over changed times and lost acquaintances.

13. 燕子

不知大廈許棲無，頻已銜泥到座隅。

曾與佳人并頭語，幾回拋卻繡工夫。

賞析：燕子頻頻銜泥至華堂，曾與佳人并頭細語，惹得她放下繡工，畫面溫馨，充滿生活情趣。

14. 秋燕

從撲香塵拂面飛，憐渠只為解相依。

經冬好近深爐暖，何必千巖萬水歸。

賞析：勸秋燕不必萬里南歸，近火取暖即可，實則表達隱逸思想，安于現狀，隨遇而安。

Appreciation:The poet tells autumn swallows not to travel far south but stay warm indoors,reflecting his reclusive mindset of accepting one’s lot.

15. 晚燕

（唐）白居易

百鳥乳雛畢，秋燕獨蹉跎。

去社日已近，銜泥意如何。

不悟時節晚，徒施工用多。

人間事亦爾，不獨燕營巢。

賞析：燕子不知時節已晚，仍徒勞銜泥，詩人借此感嘆人事亦如此，徒費心力而不自知。

16. 隋宮燕

燕語如傷舊國春，宮花一落已成塵。

自從一閉風光后，幾度飛來不見人。

賞析：燕子依舊飛來，隋宮卻已荒蕪無人，以燕語哀悼故國春光，抒發盛衰無常的歷史感慨。

Appreciation:Swallows still visit the deserted Sui Palace. Theirchirps mourn the vanished glory of the old kingdom, expressing grief overfleeting dynastic prosperity.
