regard

熟詞生義

regard 跟我們相處的時(shí)間很久很久，常作動(dòng)詞，構(gòu)成搭配 regard sb/sth as sth 使用，表示「把……視為……」。事實(shí)上，regard 也常用作名詞，表示 respect or admiration for sb。它經(jīng)常牽手介詞 for，構(gòu)成一系列搭配，比如，have no regard for sth「無視某事」，have scant regard for sth「很少關(guān)注某事」。在相處過程中，如果你覺得對(duì)方經(jīng)常無視你的感受，那么你可以告訴對(duì)方：

You often have no regard for other people's feelings.

你經(jīng)常無視別人的感受。

pay regard to sth

相反，去掉 no，意思就變成了肯定。pay regard to sth 用來表示「關(guān)注某事」。如果想表示「非常關(guān)注某事」，我們加個(gè) high 就好。另外，pay 還可以換成 show，此時(shí)，to 換成 for，變身 show regard for sth。「關(guān)注某某問題」是我們寫作中經(jīng)常用到的表達(dá)，所以這個(gè)短語(yǔ)大家要收好，代替常用的 be concerned about sth。

Parents tend to over-emphasize children’s academic performance, but show scant regard for their mental health.

父母往往過分強(qiáng)調(diào)孩子的學(xué)習(xí)成績(jī)，但對(duì)他們的心理健康卻幾乎不聞不問。

allow 和 for 結(jié)合形成了不一樣的口味，所以我們不能將其等同為「允許」了。allow for sth 意思是 to consider or include sb / sth when calculating sth「考慮到；把……計(jì)算在內(nèi)」，與 consider，或 take sth into consideration / account 類似。
